Hi there,

Those are definitely good suggestions and things that are already on the list of things to do when I eventually get back to working on this site. Not much has happened in the last year or so due to other commitments but I do plan to get back here eventually to make improvements.

However, printing already works pretty well. There isn't specifically a print button, but if you print from your browser it should come out quite nicely.

-C

1st let me say that Brewtility is awsome, I see that someone else already suggested printing recipes. I have two suggestions, 1st comes to hop additions - would it be possible to just type in the time used instead of having to constantly click the up/down arrow. And 2nd is grains......it would be nice to have a feature to add grains to the DB, I have been getting my grain from a maltster in colorado and sometimes I order grains from other sources that aren't in the listing.

Cheers!

I've just been told on Ratebeer forum by a knowledgeable person that I, in fact, did NOT brew a LA beer since it can't be done by merely heating it to 180f for 2 hours. He said that a brewing expert told him this. I believe I did though since alcohol boils off at 180f and the beer has no buzz effect at all. Next time I'll do it more scientifically.

I grow hops and have tried wet hopping. The trick is to use double the ounces since hops lose about 1/2 their weight in the drying process. Only down side is you never quite know what your IBU is going to be since the hops are not tested. Makes for a nice flavor though.

I was going for a light colored roggen beer and picked out my ingredients which was supposed to include 2 pounds of rye flakes. Well, after I had everything in the mashtun, I discovered that I had added flaked barley instead! Holy protein, Batman! That changed my whole recipe. I decided that I was going to brew an English bitter instead. At least the dark malts would cover up any protein haze. So, I simmered some crystal and chocolate malts in water for 20 minutes and added to the brew pot. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I just worked up a recipe (Simcoe Hopburst) with a bunch of late hop additions (hopburst) and I am curious about the IBU calculations. I thought that the common formulas (Rager and Tinseth) yielded similar results, but with Rager I get ~40 IBUs and with Tinseth I get ~125 IBUs. My gut says that the Rager is much closer to "reality". I also compared the same recipe in Beer Calculus (http://beercalculus.hopville.com/recipe/) and the two calculations come out much closer than here. So is this a coding error or a different implementation of the formulas?

scott

First of all I really like this website, it has the most complete list of ingredients and a great yeast calc. The only gripe i have right now is that there isnt anything higher than a 60 minute boil option for the hops...if you try clicking higher, it just gives you a FWH..etc..option. I do 90 minute boils all the time and can't calculate using that system. Just a suggestion.

It is possible to print recipes that have been made "public", but when I am formulating a recipe, I can't print it out from the "editing" page. What I just discovered this morning is that I can make the recipe public and then find it under the recent recipes and then print it. I don't want to have a recipe made public if I have not actually brewed it, so then I have to go back to my recipes and make it private again.
